چکیده

The robust spanning tree problem is a variation, motivated by telecommunications applications, of the classic minimum spanning tree problem. In the robust spanning tree problem edge costs lie in an interval instead of having a fixed value. Interval numbers model uncertainty about the exact cost values. A robust spanning tree is a spanning tree whose total cost minimizes the maximum deviation from the optimal spanning tree over all realizations of the edge costs. This robustness concept is formalized in mathematical terms and is used to drive optimization. This paper describes a new exact method, based on Benders decomposition, for the robust spanning tree problem with interval data. Computational results highlight the efficiency of the new method, which is shown to be very fast on all the benchmarks considered, and in particular on those that were harder to solve for the methods previously known.

Scenario-based modeling for multiple allocation hub location problem under disruption risk: multiple cuts Benders decomposition approach

The hub location problem arises in a variety of domains such as transportation and telecommunication systems. In many real-world situations, hub facilities are subject to disruption. This paper deals with the multiple allocation hub location problem in the presence of facilities failure. To model the problem, a two-stage stochastic formulation is developed. In the proposed model, the number of ...

A Benders\' Decomposition Based Solution Method for Solving User Equilibrium Problem: Deterministic and Stochastic Cases

The traffic assignment problem is one of the most important problems for analyzing and optimizing the transportation network to find optimal flows. This study presented a new formulation based on a generalized Benders' decomposition approach to solve its important part, i.e. user equilibrium problems, in deterministic and stochastic cases. The new approach decomposed the problem into a master p...

A new Approach Versus Benders Decomposition in Aggregate Production Planning

This paper proposes a simplified solution procedure to the model presented by Akinc and Roodman. The Benders’ decomposition procedure for analyzing this model has been developed, and its shortcomings have been highlighted. Here, the special nature of the problem is exploited which allowed us to develop a new algorithm through surrogating method. The two methods are compared by several numerical...

A Hybrid Solution Approach Based on Benders Decomposition and Meta-Heuristics to Solve Supply Chain Network Design Problem

Supply Chain Network Design (SCND) is a strategic supply chain management problem that determines its configuration. This mainly focuses on the facilities location, capacity sizing, technology selection, supplier selection, transportation, allocation of production and distribution facilities to the market, and so on. Although the optimal solution of the SCND problem leads to a significant reduc...

The robust shortest path problem with interval data via Benders decomposition

Many real problems can bemodelled as robust shortest path problems on digraphs with interval costs, where intervals represent uncertainty about real costs and a robust path is not too far from the shortest path for each possible configuration of the arc costs. In this paper we discuss the application of a Benders decomposition approach to this problem. Computational results confirm the efficien...
